Regeneration Developments in Seedley and Langworthy, 2006 - 2007

Below is a brief summary of the regeneration developments taking place in the Seedley and Langworthy area. We will provide more detailed information about the developments in the near future as we further develop our website.

Emmanuel Church and Community Space

A new landmark church and community space is to be developed, which will play a major role in the newly renovated Seedley Village. Using nationally acclaimed architects Sarah Hare Maccreanor Lavington, there will be space for up to 100 people to worship as well as a sports hall, cafe and 20 apartments created by Salford First.

Shop Refurbishments

A £1.4 million scheme has helped to improve local shops on Langworthy Road. Shop improvements such as new roofs, windows, doors, shop fronts and cleaned brickwork are complemented by improved car parking, pavements and street lighting.

New Roman Catholic School Site

Major demolition has been carried out assembling the land for a new Roman Catholic primary school. The site is currently being landscaped to make it more attractive until work starts on the school.

Langworthy Hotel

The Partnership is currently working towards options to develop, retaining the historical value of the building.

Jubilee Street Development

The Partnership is in discussions with our RSL Partner Great Places about the development of family housing on this site.

Highfield Road Landscaped Site and Block Improvements

A long Highfield Road houses have benefited from the block improvement scheme and demolition sites have been landscaped into attractive communal open spaces. The Co-op Fields RA (Co-operative Street and Highfield Road) have been busy planting up their hanging baskets.

Langworthy North

Langworthy North has benefited from the block improvement scheme and an abundance of residents’ associations have turned around their neighbourhood creating an attractive place for people to live. As well as flowers on the streets there are six alley gating schemes and two communal gardens at Alpha Spring and Kesborne, which are being created on demolished sites.

Phase Two of Shop Improvements

The second phase of shop improvements has just begun.

LifeCentre

The LifeCentre run a range of sports and arts activities for young people and have been creating floral works of art.

Langworthy Road School

Children at Langworthy Road School have been working on a school garden project.

Langworthy Road Block Improvements

Various blocks of houses on Langworthy Road have recently benefited from the improvement scheme.

Seedley Road and Langworthy Road Junction Barrier Baskets and New Planters

The community has planted up attractive barrier baskets at the gateway junctions and outside the shops along Langworthy Road.

Langworthy road Seedley Trust

Buile Hill Park

On our doorstep is Buile Hill Park, a grade II listed park of national historic interest. School children from Langworthy Road School won a gardening competition here in May. The group stores their plants in the garden centre here for planting sessions.

Granoseed Alley Way and Site for Community Garden

In this area are Granoseed RA (Grange Street, Nona Street, Seedley Park Road, Trail Street and Western Street) and Sean RA (Seedley Park Road, Edmund Street, Nadine Street and Alpha Street West).

West of Seedley Park Road Block Improvement Schemes

Block improvement schemes have been carried out to houses West of Seedley Park Road. Also along the road Mornington RA (Wychbury Street, Seedley View Rd, Seedley Park Rd & Derby Rd) have been busy planting up on their streets.

Annie Street and Wythburn Street Alley Gating Scheme

This is one of the latest alley gating schemes and residents have set up Wythann Way RA. They have successfully applied for funding to green up the alley and are working with Red Rose Forest Trust.

Annie Street Alley Gating Scheme

Our first alleygating scheme created a safe communal garden for the residents to enjoy. The alley gating scheme has brought the residents together, creating a real feeling of community. The residents set up the Annie Street Residents’ Association (RA) meeting regularly to plan how to use the space, which is an oasis of calm full of planters and hanging baskets, where the residents enjoy candle lit drinks.

Langton Street ⁄ Goulden Street Block Improvements

Langton Street and Goulden Street have benefited from the block improvement scheme. The scheme includes cleaning brickwork, re-roofing, re-building chimneys, new windows and doors and paint work. Langould Mews Homewatch and RA have been active planting up their baskets and attractive wooden planters.

Milliwood Alley Gating Scheme

Milliwood RA (Liverpool Street, Milford Street and Littlewood Street) have planted up their gated alley way.

Seedley South Area

The residents of this area have recently formed a working group to work with the Housing Market Renewal team to look at ways of improving the area. The residents of Kara Street which is in the Seedley South area have been greening up their alley way. (We will provide more detailed information about the Seedley South area as new information becomes available.)

The Seedley South Working Group have commissioned an independent community advisor TPAS to develop a strategic plan for their area. The open day on 14th September 2006 was very successful. Residents were invited along to a big marquee to comment and give their opinions on future proposals for the area.

Chimney Pot Park

Chimney Pot Park, a focus for many community events is currently undergoing a £500,000 redesign thanks to the Lottery Big Fund. Residents have been actively involved in the design and judging process.

Urban Splash Development

Urban SplashAward winning developer Urban Splash is behind some of the UK’s most exciting urban regeneration projects. The work has already started on a truly innovative scheme, which will be transforming 385 Victorian terraced houses into top innovative, affordable, contemporary homes. The traditional fronts will be retained and restored, while inside, the living spaces will be remodeled. Large open plan living rooms will be created upstairs with the back of the houses replaced with a fully glazed elevation, looking into a private communal garden.

Residents have planted up the attractive baskets that line the park wall.

SPARKY

SPARKY run a range of sports and arts activities for young people and have been creating floral works of art.

Highfield Road Fitzwarren Street Alley Gating Scheme

The largest of our alley gating schemes, the Fitzwarren Street and Highfield Rd RA have been really active in transforming their alley way into a giant community garden.

Cracked Pots Alley Gating Scheme

Residents of Fiddick Court and Milford Street known as ‘The Crackpots’ RA have been active creating a beautiful garden on a once blighted patch of land. Inside the alley gating scheme they have made a real effort to recycle and re use as much as possible.
